All the Time in the World

My taste in reading material is wide and varied: SF/fantasy/"speculative fiction", mysteries (police procedurals, mostly), history, fanfic, straight fiction, smutty vampire books, biographies, poetry, cereal boxes, assembly instructions, the fine print, and your mind.

Year of Wonders

Year of Wonders - Geraldine Brooks Brooks' forte is taking actual historical details and fleshing out the little we know with a narrative of possibility. The village in Year of Wonders, which isolated itself to keep from spreading the plague, is based on a real village that took that very step. Not being a place of much significance, the fact of their intentional quarantine is pretty much all that's known about them, which in part is what allows Brooks to fill in their stories from her own imagination and explore themes of sacrifice and free will.
